Asleep in Jesus
Dewitt C. Silvers III “Dick”, 80, of Port Orange, fell asleep in Jesus on June 25, 2012.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 2 pm Saturday July 28, 2012 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 1851 S. Clyde Morris Ave., Daytona Beach. The services will include a Marines military ceremony.
Dick was born on June 29, 1931 in New Smyrna Beach, to the late Erma (Hayes) and Dewitt C. Silvers Jr. He was a member of the 1949 graduating class of New Smyrna Beach High School. Following graduation Dick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was in the military for eight years, served in the Korean conflict and received an honorable discharge.
He worked for General Electric in Research & Development on the Apollo Mission Launch. He worked for Boeing Aerospace as an electronics engineer on the Saturn 5 Program at Cape Kennedy, the Minuteman Missile Program at Vandenburg AFB in California, and on the testing of B-1 military aircraft at Edwards AFB in California. After 30 years he retired from Boeing as a manager. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and the Marine Corps Association.
Dick was a devoted, loving and loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret (Wise); son, Steven (Charity), brother, Noel (Dottie); sister, Barbara Bochiardy; grandchildren, Nathan (Sheryl), Sarah (Sam) Moore, Esther (Adam) Manning, Hannah and Ruth Ann; great-granddaughter, Cailyn Moore; and many very special nieces and nephews.
