Tribute #1 to Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love. -MLK

Martin Luther King, Jr. attempted to set a good example by rejecting violence and other disrespectful and unloving methods of getting his point across.

Why? MLK was a Christian preacher following and applying the teachings of Jesus Christ.

  • Jesus called upon His followers to love one another with a pure and undefiled love.
  • Love to others, Jesus taught, could be understood by this: Treat others as you would have them treat you.

MLK desired for all people to live by this biblical principle, the principle of love lived out according to the Golden Rule.

He understood that love lived forth according to the Golden Rule was the key not only to racial harmony and non-discrimination but to virtually everything.

It was this principle – based on the teachings of Jesus Christ whom he was willing to live for and die for –

  • To love by treating others as you would have them treat you.
